I Am The Earth

I pretty rarely write poetry.  I took two classes in it and enjoy doing it somewhat, but I prefer long fiction.  This poem, however, I continue to feel is basically my statement of who I am mentally.  It kind of serves as my plan of action for life, though my own interpretation of it has changed over time.

I Am The Earth
I am the wind
my strength and determination
will leave my foes gasping
begging for breath
they will flatten at the
force of my power
my grace will
hearten the weak
and I will caress
the world with my gentleness

I am the seas
my vast roiling power
will drown my foes
in the depths of my will
like a wave
I will crash over them
my gentle sounds will
protect the young
enliven the old
and I will awaken
the world with my life

I am the flame
my burning heart
will scorch my foes
and their hatred
my light will drive
away the darkness
my warmth will
thaw the ideas and morals
of generations lost
and I will bring
my love to all

But most of all...

I am the earth
my foes will crack their spears
against me,
a rock of ages
determined to stand forever
my power will
defend the world
and I will be a sign
to those who hope
